Taylor Swift urges her fans to vote in order to combat racial inequality: ‘We need to elect people who will fight against police brutality and racism’
Taylor Swift is urging her fans to combat racial inequality and police brutality by heading to the polls this November.
The pop star, 30, asked her Twitter followers to vote local and state leaders who will address systematic racism.
‘Racial injustice has been ingrained deeply into local and state governments, and changes MUST be made there,’ Swift tweeted on Tuesday. ‘In order for policies to change, we need to elect people who will fight against police brutality and racism of any kind. #BlackLivesMatter.’

Taylor recommended a Medium article former President Barack Obama wrote, in which he addressed how to create change during this time.
‘This article written by @BarackObama is a fascinating read about changing policy at the state and local levels,’ she tweeted.
Taylor also promoted mail-in voting, which would allow people to submit a ballot without having to wait in line during the pandemic.
‘We need to fight for mail-in voting for the 2020 election. No one should have to choose between their health and having their voice heard,’ she wrote, along with a link to voting resources.

Taylor has not stayed silent after the death of George Floyd prompted civil unrest and protest across the country.
The pop star joined countless others in posting a single black square onto their Instagram account last week as part of Black Out Tuesday, which was intended to show solidarity with the George Floyd protests.
She also hit back at President Donald Trump after controversially tweeting ‘when the looting starts, the shooting starts’ amid the unrest.

‘These THUGS are dishonoring the memory of George Floyd, and I won’t let that happen. Just spoke to Governor Tim Walz and told him that the Military is with him all the way. Any difficulty and we will assume control but, when the looting starts, the shooting starts. Thank you!’ the tweet read.
Taylor hit back at Trump shortly after he sent the tweet.
‘After stoking the fires of white supremacy and racism your entire presidency, you have the nerve to feign moral superiority before threatening violence? ‘When the looting starts the shooting starts’??? We will vote you out in November. @realdonaldtrump,’ wrote Swift in the tweet.
