Hayden Quinn has laughed off claims he wore an earpiece on MasterChef. 

After the 34-year-old was regularly spotted with a small piece of black plastic poking out of his trademark baseball cap, he has now set the record straight. 

During Sunday’s episode, where he was eliminated from the competition, the cook revealed it was simply a pen, that was mostly hidden behind his hair and hat.

‘Pen pen pen pen! So many people confused by this,’ Hayden tweeted on Sunday, as many fans questioned if he was wearing a secret earpiece. 

‘On Hayden’s ear, is it a speaker with someone telling him cooking instructions?’ pondered one viewer, before Hayden offered an explanation.

‘Is Hayden wearing a Bluetooth headset?? What is that hanging near his ear?’ asked another eagle-eyed fan on Twitter.  

One fan said it was ‘driving them crazy’ trying to work out what is was each episode.

Hayden was eliminated at the end of Sunday’s episode of MasterChef.

The laidback chef from Manly, Sydney was undone when he failed to make horseradish and beetroot the starring ingredients in his final dish. 

He wrote to Instagram afterwards: ‘What a night! What an opportunity! Thank you, thank you, thank you to all of you for watching, for sending lovely comments, for the support and the love – I really appreciate it and it means so much.’

After his departure, the Family Food Fight star and cookbook author also said that he found being on MasterChef again ‘addictive’.  

He told Ten Daily: ‘MasterChef is such an amazing opportunity, it’s a little bit addictive, the adrenaline rush, all that is suddenly very hard to say no to’. 

The chef, who is currently filming the second season of his outdoorsy series Taste Of Australia, added: ‘I think my time in the kitchen is very much over, I’ll stick to cooking food in a goat paddock.’
