Gucci is mocked for £675 rubber man bag that’s likened to a plasterer’s bucket and a £4 B&M laundry carrier

Often at the forefront of fashion, it seems Gucci cannot live some of its more obscure designs down. 

The Italian luxury brand is being mocked online after a £675 rubber bag, which went on sale in 2018, resurfaced on Twitter. 

It was the subject of many jokes at the time, with many comparing the £675 design for men to a washing basket that could be purchased for £4 at B&M and a plasterer’s bucket. 

And two years after the blunder, it seems Twitter has not had enough of poking fun at the pricey accessory in an attention-grabbing bright yellow hue, which is still on sale from FarFetch.

All of the totes in the collection featured the Gucci vintage logo while the oversized rubber design was a nod to the shape and style of beach bags from the ’70s and ’80s.

At the bottom of the bag appeared the words Guccification, Sine Amore Nihil, (Without love, life is pointless). Summer MMXVII (2017) and XXV (25), with the brand saying each inscription is a code that holds  ‘A code that holds special meaning to the House.’

The tote rubber bag, which retailed at £675 at the time, was compared to a wash big or a plasterer’s bucket by perplexed fans of the brand.

Some said they could find very similar ‘washing baskets’ at their local B&M stores, for far less money.

The yellow ‘logo embossed tote bag’ made from 100 per cent rubber promised to take your look from ‘the laundromat to the streets’.

But some remarked the brand had just succeeded in creating the ‘most expensive laundry bag ever.’ 

Twitter users have poked fun at the design comparing it to a washing bag you can get from a high street shop.

One eagle-eyed social media user found a near-identical version – the £4 B&M heavy duty flexi bucket.

One twitter user wrote: ‘£675 to look like you’re taking in the washing.’

Another likened the design to a ‘plasterers bucket.’

The creative director of Gucci, Alessandro Michele, created the purse with the brand’s vintage logo plastered on the front and the brand debuted the bag on Instagram in 2018, stating it was ‘a new rubber bag for summer.’
