A man has been arrested following an incident where a woman was shot dead inside a house in Barham, Suffolk. 

Suffolk Police received reports that a woman had been shot in the early hours of Sunday morning and were called to the scene, near the A14 motorway, before 4.45am.

Officers found the woman, aged in her 40s, with severe injuries and she was taken to Ipswich Hospital via ambulance but died a short time later.

A spokesperson for Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre said that a 51-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder later on Sunday and was questioned by police.  

An investigation at the property is still being carried out with a police cordon remaining in place at the scene of the incident, with forensics still being carried out.
