‘I needed her to be a part of it’: AFL star Gary Ablett Jr’ s wife Jordan reveals she induced her labour so her mother could meet her son before undergoing urgent cancer treatment

Jordan Ablett and her AFL superstar Gary Jr welcomed their first child, a son named Levi, last year.

And the brunette beauty has revealed to Stellar Magazine that behind their baby joy was the heartache of her mother’s lung cancer diagnosis.

She said that a week before she was due to give birth she was told that her mother, Trudy Papalia, had stage four lung cancer and needed to begin radiation chemotherapy.

‘I needed her to be a part of it’: In an interview with Stellar on Saturday, AFL star Gary Ablett Jr’s wife Jordan (pictured) revealed she induced her labour so her mother could meet her first child, a son named Levi, before undergoing urgent treatment for stage four lung cancer

In a bid to make sure her mother wouldn’t miss out on the milestone moment, Jordan asked her obstetrician if they could induce labour before her mother began her treatment, and fortunately they agreed.

‘I needed my mum to be a part of it,’ she said, adding that she would’ve hated for her mother to miss out on the opportunity.

Jordan, who is one of three sisters, said her mother was overcome with emotion when she met her newborn grandson.

‘She started crying, because when you’ve been given that news you can’t help but think the worst. For her to be able to be a part of that moment was really special.’

Although the chemotherapy was successful, Trudy’s cancer had returned and she is now in palliative care.

Now, with the impact of coronavirus in addition to her mother’s health condition, Jordan said the difficult part is seeing her mother unable to be a grandmother to Levi.
