Willie Nelson hosts marijuana legalization concert via video to honor 4/20 day … just more than a week ahead of turning 87

  • Kacey Musgraves, Ziggy Marley and Jack Johnson perform in streaming special
  • Matthew McConaughey, Beto O’Rourke and Bill Maher also appeared
  • Willie turns 87 in nine days and many wished him an early happy birthday

Willie Nelson on Monday celebrated 4/20 with Come and Toke It, a benefit concert with proceeds aimed at Last Prisoner Project, a marijuana legalization group.

On a stream that commenced at 5:20/4:20c, and aired on Facebook and Twitch, the On The Road Again singer hosted the mellow concert with his son Lukas.

Like a livestream involving Babyface and Teddy Riley last week, occasional technical issues ensued, with Nelson joking, ‘We don’t know what we’re doing.’

The concert came nine days ahead of the country icon’s April 29 birthday, and many fans – including Matthew McConaughey in a video clip – wished him happy birthday during the show.

‘I woke up today again, so I can’t complain. I’m going to be 87 – it’s just a number,’ he said.

Other notable artists to appear on the concert included Ziggy Marley singing One Love; Kacey Musgraves, who performed Lonely Weekend and Slow Burn; Jack Johnson, who sang about a poker game he played in with Nelson; and Jeff Bridges who performed the song My Welcome Mat by Jenny Tolman.

Others to appear included Beto O’Rourke, Bill Maher and Tommy Chong.

In a promotional clip for the special, Nelson urged fans, ‘Y’all have a hit for me and pass it on,’ as he inhaled out of a vape pen.

According to Luck Reunion, ‘Whether you partake or not, this is your chance to live the dream. Luck will be asking fans to post a video of themselves passing (whatever toking material of their choice) to the left with the hashtags #ComeandTokeIt #PassLeft.’
