‘Of course I have a massive pang of disappointment for leaving so early,’ Lynton admitted. ‘To be completely honest I felt like I was just warming up.’

‘Over the course of the 90 minutes, I’m still extremely proud of what I did.’

Lynton added that his elimination makes for ‘great TV’, having made it to the top three alongside Callum Hann and Sarah Clare earlier this week.

‘It is demoralising to win but end up in an elimination. I felt a little bit beaten.’

Sunday night’s episode saw contestants have 90 minutes to prepare either a savoury or sweet dish of their choosing.

Those that failed to impress the judges were sent back to cook a second dish, using only the remainder of the 90 minutes allocated.

Lynton first plated up a pickled mussels and fish dish with a lime and ginger dressing, followed by blue swimmer crab with buckwheat and grilled asparagus.

He was sent home by the judges, leaving Rose Adam safe.

Judge Andy Allen did not hold back, describing the blue swimmer crab as ‘beige’.

Viewers at home could not hide their shock over his elimination, with one sharing on Twitter: ‘Lynton would have been one of the major contenders, very surprised he went early.’

Another said: ‘So sad for Lynton. He was in the immunity cook and now one bad day and here he is. And Rose [Adam] survives.’

‘Well, I was wrong. I would have thought Lynton’s potential would have saved him,’ one viewer posted.
