Yet the nation’s sweetheart Captain Tom Moore took things from the great outdoors to his living room to enjoy a video chat with Amanda Holden and Jamie Theakston on Heart Radio on Friday morning.
Proving himself to be quite the charmer, the war veteran, 99, admitted he found the BGT host, 49, to be ‘a charming creature’ who he ‘likes looking at’.

Captain Tom has captured the imagination of the public during the coronavirus lockdown by walking 100 laps of his garden and finished his 2,530-yard trek at his home in the Bedfordshire village of Marston Moretaine with a huge smile.
He has so far raised more than £18m for the NHS through his JustGiving page – with £5m raised in the last 24 hours alone – and has been lauded for his actions with Boris Johnson’s spokesman hinting at a possible knighthood for the war veteran.
More than 800,000 have signed online petitions calling for ‘Sir Tom’ to be knighted. Captain Moore, who turns 100 on April 30, only planned to raise £1,000 when he started out on his fundraising journey.
During his moment in the spotlight, he had his appearance on Heart on Friday.

Amanda said: ‘You have been inundated with interviews, do you know how many countries have been asking to talk to you?’
Captain Tom responded: ‘No Amanda I don’t. I must say. I am enjoying looking at you. You are such a charming creature this morning.’
Later he added a message to his Twitter followers: ‘All those ladies, thank you very much. I’d love to have a quick talk with you, and if you’re looking like Amanda, WOW!
‘I’ll keep walking as long as people subscribe to this fund for the National Health Service.’

Amanda went on to offer to pop over to make him a cup of tea after lockdown, after which he said: ‘Amanda you’re always welcome. Especially if you’re looking like that!’
Hours before, footage emerged of Captain Moore watching a video in which the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge praised him for his remarkable achievement.
Overjoyed by the message, Captain Moore, whose appeal has also received an undisclosed donation from William and Kate, said it was ‘absolutely amazing’ to hear his ‘super prince’ say such kind words about his fundraising efforts.
