MasterChef fans accuse the show’s new judges of being too nice

Could the new MasterChef judges already be on the chopping block? Fans beg for Matt Preston, Gary Mehigan and George Calombaris to return and slam the show’s current hosts for being too nice

They’re only three nights into the job, but already some MasterChef fans are accusing the show’s new judging panel of being too nice.

Some viewers have claimed Jock Zonfrillo, Melissa Leong and Andy Allen, along with guest judge Gordon Ramsay, dished up too much praise during Wednesday’s episode.

‘Let me guess, judges – insert dish is “perfect”,’ wrote one sarcastic fan on Twitter.

Another asked, ‘Anyone miss the old judges?’, referring to Matt Preston, Gary Mehigan and George Calombaris, who departed the series last year after contract negotiations fell through.

Some thought the new judges were too repetitive and didn’t bring anything new to the table.

‘When there are 4 judges, we don’t need to hear the same praise/critique 4 times. We’ve all got isolation to get back to guys, c’mon,’ tweeted one fan.

Added another: ‘I was hoping with the new #MasterChefAU judges we might have some fresh cliches. Nope. Perfection. Hero of the dish. Elevate. Feel free to add your own…’

According to one viewer, the show’s judges were far too generous in their critiques of the food laid out in front of them.

‘This group’s food looked like a dog’s brekkie but the judges comments disagree,’ commented one dismayed fan.

Normally critical Gordon, 53, appeared to be in a great mood during Wednesday’s taste test, heaping praise on the contestants’ meals.

‘They’re fit for a queen. Dressed up, ready to visit Buckingham Palace. They look beautiful,’ he said of a plate of asparagus.

He continued: ‘Most glamorous asparagus I’ve ever seen in my life. Love it.’
