Thanks! On The Project on Sunday night, chef Hayden Quinn (pictured) shared his tips for making food stretch out over many meals while in isolation amid the coronavirus pandemic

‘One of the big things is using a dish or meal multiple times,’ he explained.

‘If you’ve had a nice roast chicken, eaten all the meat and legs left over, shred the chicken off and use it on a chicken sandwich.

‘The carcass, the roast chook, throw it in a pot, with vinegar, onion, top it up, let it reduce down, you’ve got yourself a nice chicken soup.

‘Multiple things used multiple ways,’ the celebrated cook concluded.

On the show, Hayden prepared a chicken pie which can be proportioned to feed one person or a whole family.

He raised the eyebrows of host Tommy Little when he suggested using older vegetables in the fridge like ‘really ugly’ silverbeets and ‘dodgy’ mushrooms – but the chef insisted it’s all fine to eat and tastes great.

Hayden, who appeared on season three of MasterChef Australia, is back for the 2020 season which sees professionals and former contestants battle it out.

He says of the other contestants, he has his eyes set on Brendan Pang and Reece Hignell.

‘Brendan makes amazing dumplings, has his own dumpling set-up over in Perth,’ Hayden said.

As well as appearing on MasterChef, Hayden has also been a judge on the Nine Network cooking program Family Food Fight.
