Married At First Sight: The shock claim they had to cut for legal reasons

The shocking claim Married At First Sight couldn’t air for legal reasons: How Channel Nine were forced to re-edit the reunion dinner party at the last minute after lawyers were threatened

The Married At First Sight reunion dinner party was re-edited at the last minute to remove a shocking accusation that could not be aired for legal reasons.

After Natasha Spencer accused Stacey Hampton of sleeping with Mikey Pembroke, Stacey falsely accused Natasha of sleeping with his father, Dr Andrew Pembroke.

It was quickly denied, and caused confusion on set due to the fact Natasha had only briefly met his father twice while filming, and there was no evidence to back the outlandish allegations up.

In March, two months after Stacey made the shocking claim, Mikey revealed his father was ‘contemplating legal proceedings’ before the episode aired on TV.

‘My father is contemplating legal proceedings. He is a doctor and runs aged-care businesses. This has taken it too far,’ he told Yahoo! Lifestyle.

Natasha said of the claim: ‘The accusation that I slept with Mikey’s dad is completely untrue. I cannot believe that anyone would start such a horrible rumour.’

Natasha continued: ‘The only times I’ve met Mr Pembroke was on the show during the wedding and on parents day. I’d ask that the media please respect the Pembroke family and stop spreading this vile and inappropriate gossip.

‘It’s not fair to bring Mikey’s family members into these unfounded stories.’

The pair spoke out after Stacey publicly repeated the claim in New Idea magazine.

Legal:  In March, two months after Stacey made the shocking claim, Mikey revealed his father (far right) was ‘contemplating legal proceedings’ before the episode aired on TV

Ahead of the episode airing, she alleged to the publication that Mikey had told her during filming that he suspected his ‘wife’ had seduced his father.

Stacey claimed: ‘Mikey said, “I’m pretty sure [Natasha] hooked up with my dad or at least I’m pretty sure she’s hooking up with my dad”.’

Mikey strongly denied this too, later telling Nova’s 96.9: ‘My dad would never do something like that, it would be completely weird, but it’s just so far fetched.’

The shocking claim never made it to broadcast, and was removed from the episode.
