Hospitality mogul Richard Caring has pledged to feed thousands of NHS workers and the critically vulnerable by opening up the kitchens of his restaurants – including the world-famous Ivy and private members’ club Annabel’s.

Mr Caring, 71, together with his wife Patricia and The Caring Foundation, want to help feed those in need during this ‘tunnel of darkness’.

Some 5,000 meals a week will be made in Annabel’s four kitchens and distributed to staff at London hospitals including the Chelsea & Westminster, West Middlesex University Hospital, St Thomas’ and St Mary’s.

The businessman is in talks to expand the initiative to cities such as Manchester, Dublin and Glasgow.

He has also partnered with The Felix Project – London’s biggest food redistribution charity – to help feed 20,000 isolated elderly people, families with no income and NHS workers.

Dishes on offer include Thai green curry, macaroni cheese and The Ivy Collection’s renowned shepherd’s pie.

Mr Caring said his staff and suppliers were willing to risk their lives to feed the vulnerable in ‘these terrible times’.

‘This is a time for reflection, patience, understanding, co-operation, trust, belief and most important of all – action,’ he said in a statement.
