Is this the most disastrous Bake Off EVER? Celebrity version of show sees Joe Sugg faint, Alex Jones require stitches in her hand and Alison Hammond lose her oven door

  • Joe Sugg cut his finger open and fainted in The Bake Off for Stand Up To Cancer
  • Alex Jones required hand stitches after smashing her mixing bowl in challenge
  • Viewers took to Twitter and said it was laughter they needed while in lock down

Viewers branded last night’s episode of The Bake Off for Stand Up To Cancer ‘the funniest ever’ after one celebrity contestant fainted and another was left needing hand stitches.

During the Channel 4 show, James Blunt, Alison Hammond, Alex Jones and Joe Sugg tackle decorated traybakes, a classic British staple and an impressive biscuit scene depicting what they wanted to be when they grew up – only, it didn’t all go completely to plan.

And those who tuned in were quick to take to Twitter, with many branding it the most disastrous episode yet.

‘I love this episode so much, everything falling over, things going wrong, exploding mixing bowls. YES you’re my kind of people,’ joked one, while a second penned: ‘A fondant vagina, lost oven door, smashed mixer and fainting.. officially best ever episode.’

A third added: ‘Joe’s fainted, Alison thought the oven door had disappeared and James is talking to a cake, what an episode.’

Within five minutes of the episode starting, Strictly Come Dancing 2018 finalist Joe Sugg fainted after slicing his finger.

‘I have just sliced my finger open really bad,’ he gasped. ‘Help! Ouch. This is the first thing I do – there’s always one! I’ve chopped the end of my finger off. I may have to sit outside for a bit.’

And it was a busy day for the paramedics, who also needed to step in when the One Show’s Alex Jones was left in need of hand stitches after she smashed her mixing bowl.

‘James Blunt – Spent 6 years in military service, reached the rank of Captain and served in the Kosovo war. Joe Sugg – Faints after cutting his finger,’ joked one viewer who tuned in.

Elsewhere, James Blunt started talking to his tray bake, and Alison Hammond was confused by the appearance of the over and thought the door had disappeared.

‘Where’s the door gone? Oh! I thought the door has disappeared. That’s a cool over, isn’t it? Oh wow!’ she commented.

But viewers were thankful for the laughs considering the current lockdown amid the coronavirus pandemic.

One viewer commented: ‘James Blunt talked to his cake Joe Sugg fainted within 5 minutes of being on the show, Alison Hammond misplaced her oven door, Alex Jones dropped an innuendo every time she talked and catapulted a mixer across the room. Perfect cure for lockdown, thanks @BritishBakeOff,’ while a second penned:

‘We haven’t laughed like that in a long time… much needed!’
