Coronavirus: 5 Seconds of Summer’s Ashton Irwin is ‘starting to get sick’

5 Seconds of Summer’s Ashton Irwin is ‘starting to get sick’ amid the COVID-19 pandemic – as guitarist Luke Hemmings insists his bandmate is ‘feeling better’

5 Seconds of Summer drummer Ashton Irwin admitted he was feeling unwell earlier this week, as the number of COVID-19 cases continues to rise.

And on Friday, his bandmate Luke Hemmings gave an update on his condition.

Luke told Sunrise via video link: ‘I talked to him today and he said he was feeling better. So I don’t know if it was related [to coronavirus] or not.’

‘But he seems to be doing good today,’ the guitarist added.

On Tuesday, Ashton spoke about his poor health on Twitter. ‘I’m starting to get sick… luckily enough, I am young and hopefully my immune system will be able to fight this off,’ he said.

Meanwhile, 5SOS bassist Calum Hood is in self-isolation amid the COVID-19 outbreak.

‘It’s definitely a crazy time. I never thought I would live to see a pandemic like this’, the 24-year-old musician told The Daily Telegraph on Thursday.

With Calum unwell – his management said there is no evidence he has COVID-19 – it means 5SOS had to get creative to promote their fourth studio album, CALM.

‘It has redefined the way we approach our album release because we can’t be together or around large groups of people,’ he said.

As a result, the band has released a series of behind-the-scenes videos to satisfy the appetite of their global fanbase.
