Daniel Craig maintains his James Bond physique with kimchi, 30-min workouts and minimal alcohol

Daniel Craig’s personal trainer Simon Waterson has shared the secrets behind his client’s incredible physique in a new interview.

The James Bond actor, 52, embarked on a healthy diet and workout regime a year before filming No Time To Die – his fifth and final outing as the spy, set for release in November.

Conditioning coach Simon, who has worked with Daniel since 2005, revealed the screen star would start off a typical day by tucking into kimchi, black coffee and turmeric shots for breakfast, before engaging in 30-minute HIIT workouts.

Detailing the Casino Royale hunk’s eating schedule, the fitness guru told The Times: ‘Daniel started the day with rye bread, poached eggs, avocado and kimchi, maybe some kale. And turmeric shots. Then it’s lemon and ginger shots and off to work we go. Oh and, you know, a coffee.’

Aside from his first meal of the day, the TV and film star would usually follow a plant-based diet on Mondays, go pescatarian on Tuesdays, incorporate white meat into his eating on Wednesdays and vegetarian on Thursdays, and treat himself to red meat on Fridays.

The award-winning thespian would later work up a sweat with an intense exercise session, which would consist of reverse lunges, mountain climbers.

‘If I can add three components into one movement, I bring down the time. What would normally take two hours? Done in 30 minutes’, the sports enthusiast added.

Simon also revealed he was the driving force behind Daniel’s decision to quit smoking while filming his first Bond installment nearly two decades ago.

He shared: ‘I knocked on his door and he said, “Ah, trainer?” I said yes. And he said…”No?” And I said, “Make it your last!”‘

While he insisted ‘nothing is off the table’ for the Munich star, Simon highlighted that alcohol ‘isn’t really on the cards’ for ‘a professional like Daniel’, who would enjoy beer on a rare day off.

Simon’s interview comes after media personality Daniel discussed his anxieties over the script for No Time To Die and admitted feeling ‘physically very low’ was the reason behind the film’s five-year delay.

He told GQ magazine: ‘I was never going to do one again. I was like, “Is this work really genuinely worth this, to go through this, this whole thing?” And I didn’t feel… I felt physically really low.

‘So the prospect of doing another movie was just, like, off the cards. And that’s why it has been five years.’

Trying to prepare for a role in one of the most popular film franchises in modern cinema without a script also caused him to have anxiety.

He said: ‘I have suffered from it in the past. I have suffered because it’s been like, “I can’t cope. I can’t deal with this”.’

Daniel is joined by his James Bond castmates Lea, Lashana Lynch, Rami Malek and Ana de Armas in the upcoming installment of James Bond, directed by Cary Fukunaga.

The film was recently pushed back to be released in November instead of April amid global concern around the spread of coronavirus.
