Sharon Stone urges people to take self-isolation seriously to flatten curve of coronavirus spread

Sharon Stone has joined the list of celebrities urging people to stay home and self-isolate during the coronavirus pandemic.

The Basic Instinct star, 62, posted a video to her Instagram on Thursday in which she’s seen sitting on a sofa and wearing a t-shirt with the word ‘Love’ emblazoned across the front.

‘We seem to be approaching what is the peak of the spreading of this disease, of the infectious part of this disease,’ Stone began.

‘I have been asked to ask you to stay home for the next few days. Don’t make those emergency runs to the supermarket, please don’t go to public places.’

The actress, who has been a high-profile advocate for AIDS/HIV research for many years, stressed that COVID-19 ‘is extremely contagious’.

‘This is real, this is important and those very same doctors are working on this,’ she said. ‘They are respected, they are wise and they are being honest with all of us.’

Stone continued: ‘Please do what they’re asking. Stay at home just for the next few days. That can flatten the curve of the spread and save hundreds of thousands, if not millions of lives.’

While she did not elaborate on who had asked her to urge her social media followers to stay home, she did post several photos showing her with leading immunologist Dr. Anthony Fauci who has become a familiar figure at White House coronavirus briefings.

The photos of them together were taken at the Drugs for Neglected Diseases Initiative gala in New York in October 2018.

She also shared video of Bill Gates predicting in a 2015 TED Talk that a contagious virus posed the biggest threat to humanity and could cause millions of deaths.

Also on Thursday, actor Kevin Bacon took to social media to encourage people to take self-isolation and social distancing seriously.

Joking that he’s only ‘six degrees away’ from everyone, he explained in an Instagram video that ‘Right now, like people around the world, I’m staying home because it saves lives and it is the only way we’re going to slow down the spread of this coronavirus.’

Launching the hashtag #IStayHomeFor, Bacon, 61, said: ‘The contact that you make with someone who makes contact with someone else, that may be what makes somebody’s mom or grandpa or wife sick. Everyone of us has someone who is worth staying home for.’

He then shared photos showing him holding up a chalkboard on which was written ‘#IStayHomeFor Kyra Sedgwick.’ He’s been married to the actress since 1988.

Other celebrities quickly embraced the new hashtag with both Elton John and David Beckham posting their own #IStayHomeFor photos on their Instagrams.
