He has been self-isolating himself after being exposed to Richard Wilkins, who tested positive to coronavirus this week.

And on Thursday, there was more bad news for Michael ‘Wippa’ Wipfli when he discovered a huge spider in his backyard while working from home.

The 40-year-old radio host was gardening with his children when he was faced with the furry arachnid.

Wippa and his Nova co-host, Ryan ‘Fitzy’ Fitzgerald, have been self-isolating after being exposed to entertainment reporter Richard Wilkins, who tested positive to coronavirus.

The radio personalities and their crew have since tested negative to COVID-19, but will remain in isolation until Thursday March 26.

Wippa called in from his home studio earlier this week to praise Richard for ‘doing the right thing’ by immediately self-isolating the moment he discovered he may have been exposed to coronavirus.

‘I feel for Dickie, he did the right thing. Obviously, he came into contact with Tom Hanks’ wife (Rita Wilson) and when the news came through that that was the case, he did the right thing and he self-isolated,’ Wippa said.

‘I feel for the big guy, he was caught out. He obviously doesn’t want the knock-on or flow-on effect of where everybody stands right now.’

Wippa explained that the Nova FM team had met on Sunday ‘at a special clinic’ at the Royal North Shore Hospital, where staff were tested for coronavirus.

‘We don’t want to be caught out like poor Dickie was. It’s important that we make sure we do the right thing and cover ourselves,’ he said.

Speaking to Prime Minister Scott Morrison on Thursday, the radio hosts were commended for setting a ‘great example’ to the general public.

They told Mr Morrison their test results came back negative, to which he replied: ‘I’m pleased to hear that.

‘Thanks for observing the self-isolation as well, it’s a great example for everyone. I know it can be inconvenient.’

Mr Morrison continued over the phone: ‘At the end of the day when we all do the right thing, that’s protecting the more vulnerable and that’s old people or even young people who are going through things like chemo treatment, we do the right thing.’
