Bebe Rexha urges fans to ‘stay inside’ as she reveals ‘friend of a friend’ died from COVID-19

The seriousness of the coronavirus pandemic has hit a little too close to home for Bebe Rexha.

The singer, 30, tweeted Monday that ‘a friend of a friend’ has passed away after becoming infected with COVID-19.

As she shared the news, she urged her fans to follow the guidelines and practice social distancing. 

‘This is NOT A JOKE. A friend of a friend just died of corona at the age of 45,’ Rexha tweeted. ‘STAY INSIDE YOUR F***** HOUSE AND DO YOUR CIVIC DUTY. PLEASE.’

As of Monday evening, the number of confirmed cases of coronavirus in the US surged past 4,000 with more than 70 deaths reported.

Rexha expressed her opinion that more could be done to help all those being affected by the crisis.

‘The US government should put a stop to rent payments, mortgage payments and utility payments at least until the corona virus is under control. Millions of Americans are worried about keeping their jobs and their homes instead of staying safe,’ she tweeted, adding ‘@realDonaldTrump’.

After promising to send money via cash app to fans who told her they were facing financial hardship as more cities go into lockdown, she ended her Twitter session with: ‘Please stay safe you guys! Love You! God bless you.’

A number of celebrities have spoken out on social media today to get the word out on how people can help protect themselves from the spread of COVID-19.

Celebrated director Mel Brooks, 93, played his part in a humorous video with his son Max that they shared on Twitter.  

In a nearly minute-long clip, Max, 47, addresses thd camera while his father, director of 1970s comedies including Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein and Silent Movie, watched from the house behind the safety of a window.

‘If I get the coronavirus, I’ll probably be okay,’ Max said. ‘But if I give it to him, he could give it to Carl Reiner, who can give it to Dick Van Dyke. And before I know it, I’ve wiped out a whole generation of comic legends.

‘When it comes to coronavirus, I have to think about who I can infect. And so should you.’

Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds announced Monday they have donated $1 million to the nonprofits Feeding America and Food Banks Canada.

The Deadpool star, 43, and the Gossip Girl actress, 32, announced their charitable move via Instagram Monday in separate posts.

‘Covid-19 has brutally impacted older adults and low income families,’ the Deadpool star, 43, shared via Instagram. ‘Blake and I are donating $1 million to be split between FEEDING AMERICA and FOOD BANKS CANADA. If you can give, these orgs need our help.’

Reynolds then lightened the moo by adding: ‘Take care of your bodies and hearts. Leave room for joy. Call someone who’s isolated and might need connection. (Hugh Jackman’s # is 1-555-HUGH.)’

Country music star Dierks Bentley is also donating money to workers, pledging to put aside $90,000 to continue to pay all hourly employees at his Whiskey Row restaurant and bar in Nashville.

He made the decision after Nashville Mayor John Cooper ordered all bars on Lower Broadway and in Davidson County to close in an attempt to limit the spread of COVID-19.  

‘My heart goes out to all the guys/girls down on Lower Broad. Feels like yesterday that it was me down there working for tips,e’ h shared on social media.

‘I am going to immediately give each of our 90 hourly employees $1,000 to help in the short run as our community and the country try to get a grip on the situation,’ he said.
