The star started his dancing career in his home town of Melbourne, Australia, and moved to the UK in 1989 for bigger opportunities.

In his early years, Craig performed as his female alter ego, Lavish, and he has spoke about his drag queen character in his autobiographies, with his recent book titled In Strictest Confidence.

In April 2019, he spoke to Weekend magazine about his favourite photos and shared a snap of himself doing the splits as Lavish in 1985.

He said: ‘As an ambitious 20-year-old singer and dancer I got sick of always performing in the chorus line in shows, so I hit upon the idea of creating a drag queen alter ego, who I called Lavish, and the work started to pour in.

‘This was the era of US soap opera Dynasty, so I copied the look of Joan Collins, who played Alexis Carrington – I had similar make-up and found a dress with massive shoulder pads.

‘I sang, played the trumpet, tap-danced and then ended my routine by doing the splits. No wonder I’ve had to have two hip replacements since!’
