Married At First Sight’s Aleks Markovic dumps Ivan Sarakula

They’ve been the golden couple of Married At First Sight’s seventh season.

But the fairytale romance between Ivan Sarakula and Aleksandra Markovic came to an end on Tuesday during homestay week.

After Aleks, 26, visited Ivan’s home in Sydney, she finally admitted that she didn’t see a future with him beyond friendship.

The issues between the couple became clear as soon as Aleks arrived at Ivan’s sparsely decorated apartment.

She was noticeably disappointed when Ivan surprised her with a simple mezze platter and wine on the balcony.

‘I’m at a little bit of a crossroads at the moment… I can’t force something that’s not there,’ she told producers.

She remained unimpressed when Ivan took her to meet his mates so they could show off their cars.

Since the couple both work as real estate agents, Ivan tried to impress Aleks by bringing her along to an open house he was working.

‘It’ll be a fun day and I hope that the both of us can be reminded about how much common ground we have together,’ Ivan said as he got ready. 

However, the outing had the opposite effect on Aleks, who complained: ‘I feel like I’m going back to work.’

With Aleks’ discontentment growing, she finally sat Ivan down to tell him that they weren’t on the same page in their relationship. 

She started off by saying that she can’t see herself relocating from Perth to Sydney to be with Ivan, before breaking the news about their future together.

Puzzled and hurt, Ivan asked: ‘Do you think if we had established a stronger romance that it would be a different story?’ 

Aleks responded: ‘I stepped back and really assessed whether I see us romantic in the future. I love your qualities, I adore everything about you. 

‘But for me, after the last commitment ceremony, the realisation was, “Do I adore this man as just a man that’s gonna be part of my life forever but not romantically? Or do I adore this man because I see myself falling in love with him and he’s my soulmate?”‘

‘I had to determine that and I got to the stage where I felt like there are aspects of our relationship that we do lack and miss,’ she continued.

Ivan looked heartbroken by the news, but vowed to keep his faith and said that they could still possibly work out.

‘Somethings happened here, her spark’s just fizzled out,’ he told producers.  

‘I’d be open to the idea of a comeback in our relationship, she means a lot to me, but there has to be some optimism from Aleks about the future.’

While Ivan tried to remain positive, Aleks admitted to producers that there was little hope of her ever having a future with him.

‘I came in here to find love, I came in here to find the father of my children,’ she said.

‘I can’t keep putting on a facade and pretending like it’s more than a friendship,’ she continued. 

‘Of course I’m feeling disheartened, but at the same time, the more I think about it, I realise that I don’t see Ivan as a future partner, I don’t see him as a soulmate, I don’t see us romantically involved with each other.’
