Married At First Sight: Josh Pihlak breaches his contract to expose producers

Married At First Sight’s Josh Pihlak broke his contract with Channel Nine on Tuesday to expose producers over their ‘crock of s**t’ editing.

The 28-year-old truck driver said he ‘can’t wait to get sued’ for speaking out, after his family was flooded with death threats on social media.

Josh faced a viewer backlash earlier this week when he appeared to side with his mother, Mandy Manning, during a tense confrontation with his ‘wife’, Cathy Evans.

Josh began his rant on Instagram by revealing that MAFS participants ‘aren’t meant to be using their social media’ but that ‘sometimes it’s better to speak up’.

After confirming his ‘unfortunate’ split from Cathy, which is yet to air on TV, he said: ‘I knew going into this that it’d be highly edited, but watching [Monday’s episode], what transpired and what actually happened was an absolute joke.

‘The reason I’m speaking up is because it absolutely takes a toll when your mum, yourself and even your little brother are receiving death threats. It isn’t cool.

‘I’ve always put my hand up when I’ve done something wrong. I wasn’t perfect in the experiment, no. But what transpired at that lunch is an absolute crock of s**t.’

Josh explained that producers had encouraged his mother to ask the couple to list three things they liked and disliked about each other.

But they cut out the positive remarks in the final edit and instead chopped up Josh’s words to portray him in a negative light.

He said: ‘My answers were given to different questions. It is what it is and I’m not going to argue it. My main concern is the hate to my little brother especially.’

Josh then claimed that after Cathy left that night, producers ‘pushed’ to film him and his friends having beers as part of his pre-season ‘backstory’ – which he now fears will air on Wednesday to look like he’s celebrating Cathy leaving.

He continued: ‘They had my friends and I having beers and talking about the wedding – which was hard to do, especially straight after the break-up. I won’t be surprised if they put that on to make it look like we were having a party.’

Josh concluded his video by urging people not to sign up for Married At First Sight.

‘I just can’t stress enough for the people that are thinking about signing up to have a good-hearted think,’ he said.

‘When you sign that contract, any footage or audio can be sliced up however they think. It says in the fine print that you may not be perceived in a postie light – and me being naive, I thought I’d give it a chance.

‘How could it go wrong? It’s just so disappointing seeing how much they left out.’

After his post went viral, Josh wrote on Instagram: ‘I can’t wait to get sued, they can take my 2002 Subaru with three bald tyres and my finance loans I haven’t been paying.’

It’s believed Josh and Cathy will leave the experiment at the commitment ceremony this Sunday.

On Monday’s episode of Married At First Sight, Cathy faced off with Josh’s mother during an awkward hometown date in Newcastle.

Cathy accused her ‘husband’ of throwing her under the bus the moment they sat down for lunch, despite him reassuring her beforehand that he would support her.

She became upset when Mandy brought up previous issues the couple had faced in the experiment and Josh failed to defend her – or so it seemed.

‘I get it, that’s your son. My valid reasoning is not enough for her because her son takes first priority,’ Cathy said afterwards. ‘And she was bringing up things that are just going to reignite feelings of anger and resentment for Josh.’

Channel Nine declined to comment.
