Katy Perry has revealed how her new single, Never Worn White, details her fears of commitment – and how she shared those fears with fiancé Orlando Bloom.
The 35-year-old appeared on Australia’s The Project on Tuesday night and performed the new single live for the first time.
Discussing the themes of the song, the American singer says she did discuss her feelings with Orlando, 43, before she poured them into her lyrics.

‘Of course we were in communication,’ she told the show’s hosts, who’d asked her if her British partner had advanced warning regarding the song’s emotional content.
Katy added: ‘I thought the song would be a really good start for this next time in my life, to set the tone.
‘And to really talk about the vulnerability of commitment, and sometimes how amazing it is, but how terrifying it can be.

‘A lot of stuff does bubble up when you’re about to do that big number. The best way I know how to communicate is through music.
‘I thought the combination of just wearing my heart on my sleeve continually, like I do and have always done, and also revealing what’s happening in my life right now… I thought Never Worn White is the right one.’
Katy went on to perform the song on the show live in the studio for the first time, looking stunning and showing off her baby bump in an orange, retro dress.

The new track details Katy’s struggle with commitment, but, also, with her deep desire to let go of fear and succumb to the vulnerability of love.
The lyrics are as follows: ‘Cause I’ve never worn white/But I wanna get it right/Yeah, I really wanna try with you.’
‘No, I’ve never worn white/But I’m standin’ here tonight/Cause I really wanna say ‘I do.’
She donned a dramatic white gown in the Never Worn White video, but transitioned into an elaborate floral ensemble that nearly consumed her 5 feet-8 inch frame.

The video’s finale placed the singer in her most stripped down form, which revealed not only herself, but her baby-to-be to the world.
It is the first child for Katy and British actor Orlando, who has a son, Flynn, nine, with former model Miranda Kerr.
Katy and Orlando first started dating in early 2016, but split in February 2017.
The couple reconciled in April 2018, and the Pirates of the Caribbean star popped the question in a romantic Valentine’s Day proposal the following year.
