The film is an adaptation of the musical that premiered in Atlanta in 2016 and opened on Broadway in 2018, earning six Tony nominations.

Streep and Corden stars as two washed-up Broadway actors who decide to go to Indiana to support a teen girl’s wish to take her girlfriend to the high school prom.
In the process, the characters Dee Dee Allen and Barry Glickman may even manage to resurrect their careers thanks to the publicity they engender.
Murphy has assembled a star-studded cast for the production that includes Awkwafina, Keegan-Michael Key, Kerry Washington, Ariana DeBose and Andrew Rannells.
It was announced last week that unknown actress Jo Ellen Pellman has been cast as the lead character Emma.
Streep and Corden appeared to be dressed for early scenes in the movie where their characters are starring together on Broadway in a show about Eleanor Roosevelt.
When the show is panned by critics, that’s when they go looking for a cause that will rehabilitate them and join with two other down-on-their-luck actors, played by Kidman and Rannells, to convince Emma to stand up to the PTA in her conservative hometown.
The Prom is part of Glee and AHS creator Murphy’s five-year deal with Netflix reported to be worth between $250 million and $300 million.
