Dancing On Ice pro Hamish Gaman is engaged to girlfriend of four years Amelia Humfress

Dancing On Ice’s Hamish Gaman is engaged to girlfriend Amelia Humfress – and his fall-out with Caprice Bourret prompted him to propose earlier than planned.

Hamish, 36, hit the headlines when he and Caprice, 48, suddenly ended their skating partnership on Dancing On Ice back in January, leading to the model getting another partner before subsequently deciding to quit the ITV series.

And the professional skater has now revealed to Hello! magazine that he will tie the knot with brunette beauty Amelia in December, after she helped him get through ‘a dark place’ over the past few months.

Tying the knot: Dancing On Ice star Hamish Gaman has announced his engagement to his girlfriend of four years, Amelia Humfress

He told the publication: ‘I’ve known for a long time that I want to spend the rest of my life with Amelia, but what I’ve been through made me keen to make that commitment to her sooner than we’d anticipated.

‘For the past few months I’ve been in a dark place which I couldn’t have got through without her.’

The Dancing on Ice star’s celebrity partner Caprice sensationally quit the show amid claims the pair had a fall-out.

Caprice was reportedly left too scared to speak during Dancing on Ice training after Hamish enforced a ‘three strikes and you’re out rule’ if she didn’t do exactly what he said – making her feel like mistakes weren’t allowed.

The mother-of-two quit the show to ‘recover and look after herself and her family’ – days after she was assigned a new professional partner to perform with.

Speaking about the support offered by fiancée Amelia, Hamish said: ‘Recent events have made me realise just how much I love her. Planning our wedding together has brought light to the darkness.’

The couple met on popular dating app Tinder and have been together for four years.

‘Without Amelia I don’t know what I would have done,’ the professional skater said of recent months.

‘When you’re in the public eye, you expect to read and hear gossip about yourself, but I never thought it would affect my mental health as much as it did.

‘I found it hard to sleep and eat, and would wake up with anxiety. Amelia has been my absolute rock.’

Hamish addressed his falling out with Caprice last month, tweeting: ‘Honestly, I’m not okay, but I’d like to thank Amelia, my pro family and ITV for doing all they can to support me.’

Last Sunday, Hamish made his first appearance on Dancing On Ice since quitting the show the week before.

The dancer declared that he was having the worst time of his life following the aftermath of Caprice’s departure from the show.

He said in a statement just a week before: ‘The past three-and-a-half months have been the worst of my life, and I’m struggling. It might look like things have been calming down, but they aren’t.’

Tweeting last Sunday the dancer wrote: ‘Hi everyone. I’m excited to be returning to @dancingonice tonight. Thank you to everyone who reached out to me when I was really struggling.’

Last week, Caprice broke her silence over her time on the show, and accused bosses of lacking a ‘duty of care’.

Speaking to The Sun about her decision to leave the show on Wednesday, the TV personality also claimed producers sided with her ex skating partner Hamish in the wake of their nasty feud.

Caprice, who quit the series last month, told the publication: ‘There is no duty of care. In America, they have to have it or they get sued.

‘It’s just thinking about other people, it’s just common decency, I think, when it comes to these kind of destructive shows. We have to have a soul at some point for God’s sakes.’

She went on to claim the ice skating professional had been ‘bullying’ her, but said she was grateful that people were ‘talking about’ what had happened, and added that she wouldn’t go on reality TV again.

A spokesperson for ITV said: ‘We take our duty of care very seriously. We have always been fully committed to ensuring that everyone involved on Dancing On Ice is fully supported and keep a close eye on everyone’s well being throughout the series.

‘We are very proud of the brilliant team both on and off screen who deliver a fantastic show each week.’

The spokesperson added: ‘We take allegations of bullying very seriously but found no evidence on Dancing On Ice and we strongly refute any suggestion to the contrary.’

Meanwhile a source told MailOnline: ‘Like other shows of its type, Dancing On Ice is by its very nature a physical challenge…

‘Celebrities have access to a psyche and are also offered counselling, as well as there being an on site physio and GP to cover both mental and physical well being.’
