Police charge man, 57, with criminal damage and dangerous driving after video showed a parked car being flipped over by a digger at a farm

A man will appear in court charged with criminal damage and dangerous driving weeks after video emerged of a parked car being tossed into the air by a digger after it was left blocking a farm gate. 

The 57-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident at a farm in Teesdale, which went viral last month.

The force said a 20-year-old arrested on suspicion of assault during the same incident on June 5 has been released under investigation while inquiries continue.

Dramatic footage filmed last month showed a man using a telehandler to overturn the silver Vauxhall hatchback before carting the vehicle away and bundling it out onto the road

Dramatic footage showed a man using a telehandler to overturn the silver Vauxhall hatchback before carting the vehicle away and bundling it out onto the road.

A shirtless man was seen on footage kicking the tractor as the car was hauled away from a gate it was blocking at the farm in Barnard Castle, County Durham. 

Durham Police said: ‘A 57-year-old man has been reported for the offences of criminal damage and dangerous driving.

‘A court date has not yet been set.

‘A 20-year-old who was interviewed in relation to an assault during the same incident has been released under investigation while inquiries continue.’
