Christina Aguilera publicly speaks out in support of Britney Spears

Christina Aguilera has urged a judge to free Britney Spears following her testimony about her life under her father Jamie’s ‘abusive’ conservatorship.

In response to Spears’ 24-minute statement while appearing in Los Angeles court via telephone on Wednesday, Aguilera, 40, took to social media to send her support and vocalize concern on Monday afternoon.

‘These past few days I’ve been thinking about Britney and everything she is going through,’ Aguilera tweeted, alongside a throwback of them as kids, presumably from their days on The Mickey Mouse Club in the early 1990s.

‘It is unacceptable that any woman, or human, wanting to be in control of their own destiny might not be allowed to live life as they wish,’ she continued. ‘To be silenced, ignored, bullied or denied support by those ‘close’ to you is the most depleting, devastating and demeaning thing imaginable.’

Aguilera, who rose to fame alongside Spears on their hit Disney show, went on to state that ‘the harmful mental and emotional damage this can take on a human spirit is nothing to be taken lightly.’

‘Every woman must have the right to her own body, her own reproductive system, her own privacy, her own space and her own happiness,’ the mom-of-two added.

While the Beautiful singer acknowledged she doesn’t know what goes on behind ‘closed doors’ of Spears’ life, she wanted to share from her heart.

‘The conviction and desperation of this plea for freedom leads me to believe that this person I once knew has been living without compassion or decency from those in control,’ she continued.

Aguilera also said Spears ability to work ‘under conditions and pressure unimaginable to most’ makes her deserving of all ‘the freedom possible to live her happiest life.’

‘My heart goes out to Britney,’ she concluded. ‘She deserves all the TRUE love and support in the world.’

After launching their respective solo careers after The Mickey Mouse Club, the duo were often pitted against each other as Spears was portrayed as the ‘good girl’ and Aguilera was seen as ‘the bad girl.’

Regardless of the past, Aguilera expressed wanting to record a song with Spears as recently as 2018.

In 2008, she told The Daily Mail: ‘Britney is someone that I used to hold hands with. We were silly little girls on the Mickey Mouse Club. What a journey it has been for both of us!’

‘We don’t keep closely in touch with one another,’ she reflected. ‘Our lives have taken on two different directions.’

Britney’s highly-publicized and contentious relationship with her once-estranged father has become has birthed ‘Free Britney’ movements worldwide among her fans and fellow celebrities concerned for her welfare.

It was revealed during the Wednesday hearing that Britney wants to end the conservatorship and that she has been opposing it quietly for the past seven years.

‘I want this conservatorship to end – I truly believe that this conservatorship is abusive,’ Spears told Judge Penny.

‘I want to be able to get married to my boyfriend and have a baby but the conservatorship told me I can’t do that,’ she continued.

‘I have an IUD (intrauterine device) inside me to prevent me from having a baby. I want to go to a doctor and take it out so I can have a baby but they (the conservatorship) told me no,’ she added.

‘I feel ganged up on and bullied and alone,’ the singer continued.

‘I want changes. I want changes going forward, and I deserve changes. It’s my wish and dream for all of this to end.’
