‘It was meant to be me and then her coming in as an intruder but she got offered Celebrity Apprentice, which was a better decision I guess for her,’ she added.

The Melbourne mother of three said that while Martha was thrilled at the opportunity to appear on Big Brother, she felt Nine’s Celebrity Apprentice was ‘more up her alley’.

‘She wanted to do something for a good cause,’ she said of her daughter’s decision, referring to how Celebrity Apprentice contestants are playing for charity.

Mary explained that while she initially had doubts about appearing on the show, she was never worried about backlash from viewers.

‘I always knew there might be backlash being Martha’s mum, but I didn’t really care what people think,’ she said defiantly.

‘In the end people don’t really know you. Even with Martha, they are so many layers to her. She’s very considerate and very generous… You’ve just got to know her.’

Mary went on to say that before entering the Big Brother house, her daughter had offered her a few words of advice.

‘Just told me, “Be yourself because on Big Brother you can’t fake it, there’s cameras everywhere – 24 hours, seven days a week,”‘ she said.

Mary was booted off Big Brother on Monday night’s episode.
