Tesla files trademark applications related to possibly opening its OWN restaurants

Want fries with that, Elon? Tesla files trademark applications related to possibly opening its OWN restaurants

  • Tesla has filed trademarks for ‘restaurant services, pop-up restaurant services, self-service restaurant services, take-out restaurant services’
  • The idea was first brought up by CEO Elon Musk several years ago
  • The application was signed on May 27 and will be reviewed by an attorney
  • It’s possible the restaurants could be located at or near the company’s Supercharger stations, of which there are more than 2,500 around the world
  • Tesla already sells tequila, apparel, a water bottle, an umbrella and mini versions of its cars, including a $600 Model S for children

Tesla has filed for three trademarks related to possibly joining the restaurant business – an idea CEO Elon Musk first floated several years ago.

He’s said in the past that Tesla-branded restaurants could sprout up around its charging stations. It’s not clear from the applications if that’s the current intention.

One of the trademark applications is for ‘restaurant services, pop-up restaurant services, self-service restaurant services, take-out restaurant services,’ according to the filing.

The application was signed on May 27 and will be reviewed by an attorney later this year.

Interestingly enough, one of the applications filed by Tesla is for use of a ‘stylized “T”‘ for its logo, perhaps taking a page out of Apple’s playbook.

It also filed for trademarks with the word Tesla, as well as a stylized version of the word, Tesla, according to Electrek, which first reported the news.

In January 2018, Musk tweeted that he was going to put ‘an old school drive-in, roller skates and rock restaurant’ at one of the then new Tesla superchargers in Los Angeles.

He added that it would be near Interstate 405, but did not specify an exact location.

Following Musk’s tweets, the company did apply for building permits at the Santa Monica Supercharger, according to Electrek.

DailyMail.com has reached out to Musk on Twitter with a request for comment.

In 2017, the company’s former CTO, JB Straubel, said Tesla might move into the restaurant space at the FSTEC restaurant-technology conference, according to TechCrunch.

Musk, one of the richest men in the world, has publicly talked about expanding Tesla’s brand into a number of different ventures, including the restaurant business, as well as the company’s own tequila.

In November, the company launched a $250 bottle of ‘Teslaquila’ on the company’s website and it sold out in just a few short hours.

Moving into the restaurant business expands on the company’s ambitions to be a lifestyle brand in the vein of Apple or Peloton.

On its website, Tesla already sells apparel for both men and women, a water bottle, an umbrella and mini versions of its cars, including a $600 Model S for children.
