Perrie Edwards confronted by Mollie King after Little Mix left The Saturdays out of BRITs speech

Little Mix made history during last week’s BRITs when they became the first girl band to win the title of best British Group after being nominated three previous times.

During their speech, Jade Thirlwall said: ‘This award isn’t just for us, it’s for Spice Girls, Sugababes, All Saints, Girls Aloud, all the incredible girls bands we love you.’

However, Mollie King’s band The Saturdays were not included on the list, prompting Mollie, 33, and her Radio 1 co-host Matt Edmondson to grill pregnant Perrie Edwards, 27, about the speech while interviewing her this week, with Matt, 35, asking: ‘Is there anyone in there you think might be missing?’

Honest: Perrie Edwards explained why The Satrudays were left off Little Mix’s BRITs speech despite them mentioning  Spice Girls, Sugababes, All Saints, and Girls Aloud

Perrie was quick to assure Mollie she had suggested Little Mix include The Saturdays in their acceptance speech, however the group did not get a mention as ‘everyone was like you can’t stand there and list every single girl band just do four and move on’.

Matt said: ‘Hi Perrie from Little Mix! Now I don’t want to make this too awkward. I want to make it a bit awkward but not too awkward. Let’s remind ourselves of the brilliant speech thanking the many giants who came before you.’

He went on: ‘Spice Girls, Sugababes, All Saints, Girls Aloud, all incredible female bands. Hmmm. Is there anyone in there you think might be missing?’

Explaining why Little Mix only said four names during their speech, Perrie told Matt and Mollie: ‘You know what, in the dressing room I did flag this and say we would have to list The Saturdays and then Jade said what about Banarama? What about all the greats?’

The blonde beauty continued: ‘And then everyone was like you can’t stand there and list every single girl band just do four and move on, honestly Mollie I had your back. Don’t you worry.’

Matt then joked: ‘I think that makes it worse. It was considered and they were cut.’

Little Mix’s Jade, 28, and her pregnant bandmates Leigh-Anne Pinnock, 29, and Perrie also made sure to give a shoutout to their former fourth member Jesy Nelson, also 29, as they collected the gong earlier in May.

It was an especially big night for Little Mix, with two members debuting their baby bumps on the red carpet, as they won their historical award ten years after forming on The X Factor and treating fans to dozens of hit songs.

Taking to the stage to accept their prize for British Group, Leigh-Anne said: ‘We have been together for 10 years it’s been the best years of our life, we’ve had so much fun we’ve made so many memories, we want to thank your incredible fans, Jesy.

‘It’s not easy being a female in the UK pop industry, we’ve seen the misogyny, dominance and lack of diversity, we’re proud of how we’re stuck together and we’re using our voices more than ever.’

Former bandmate Jesy Nelson, who left Little Mix in December, revealed her joy over the impressive accolade as she shared a sweet snap of her ex-bandmates to Instagram alongside a lines of heart and clapping hand emojis.

Jesy didn’t attend the ceremony at London’s O2 Arena, instead spending the day in the studio working on her solo music and teasing fans with an ‘exciting’ new track.
