Oti Mabuse says lesser-known middle sister Phemelo is the most talented dancer out of her sisters

She’s the only Strictly professional to win the show two years in a row.

But Oti Mabuse has said that out of her three siblings, she’s not the best dancer – nor is it her older sister, Strictly judge Motsi Mabuse – but their middle sister Phemelo, who works as an engineer in South Africa.

Oti, 30, reveals in Thursday’s Jonathan Ross Show: ‘To be honest, we have another sister, middle sister, she was the better dancer.’

Surprise! Oti Mabuse, 30, has said that out of her three siblings, she’s not the best dancer – nor is it her older sister, Strictly judge Motsi Mabuse, 39 – but their middle sister Phemelo

She explained to Jonathan, 60: ‘She’s a mechanical engineer [now]. She designs windmills which create electricity through wind in South Africa.’

Oti also touched upon her two-time Strictly victory – having been crowned winner of the ballroom show in 2019 alongside actor Kelvin Fletcher and again in 2020 with comedian Bill Bailey.

The brunette beauty admitted she didn’t expect their win, saying: ‘We were dancing against incredible people… to win that, I didn’t see that happening.

‘I saw us going really far. You literally hear both of us going, “No way!” and the producers saying, “Don’t swear!” [when we won].’

Oti – who will appear alongside Jonathan as a judge on ITV’s upcoming series The Masked Dancer – went on to discuss her new venture, even revealing her game plan when it comes to guessing which celebrities are behind the masks.

‘I’m hoping I can [guess who they are]. It’s aired in America and has been really successful,’ she began.

‘So I watched that one. Actually the more established dancers or accomplished dancers, they fake it at the beginning, they want to come across as though they’re bad, but likeable and then they make it further.

‘But I think you can see what they’re going to do.’

Jonathan then quips to Oti: ‘I can see you’re going to take this quite seriously?’ to which the Strictly star replies: ‘I will try.’

She added: ‘I’m really, really bad at game shows, but dance shows, not too bad. We’ll see… I’ll Google them from the clues. That’s the thing. I’ll have you [Jonathan], you’ll be by my side, partners in crime.’

Oti’s appearance comes after it was reported that BBC bosses were ‘worried’ that she would leave Strictly after landing a new judging job on The Masked Dancer.

But in March, the broadcaster confirmed the 16 dancers who will hit the dance floor this autumn, with Oti being among the names.

That same month, the South African dancer addressed rumours she was considering leaving the ballroom show during an appearance on Steph’s Packed Lunch.

When asked by host Steph McGovern what was ‘going on’, Oti said: ‘Do you know what, some of these conversations obviously I have never been a part of – they are above my pay grade.’

Steph then asked about the claims the bosses for both shows were ‘fighting over [her]’ and Oti simply said: ‘I’m a little dot. These are big shows!’

As for her new Masked Singer gig, TV bosses are reportedly hoping to air the show in May, when there would usually be BGT finals, meaning there’s a quick turnaround on recording the show.

ITV confirmed BGT wouldn’t be going ahead last month, saying that despite the efforts of the teams at ITV, Thames and head judge Simon Cowell’s Syco, they were forced to call plans off.

The Masked Dancer is already a hit in America and sees a slew of unnamed celebrities take to the floor to showcase their impressive moves, leaving a panel of judges to guess their identity.

Oti has replaced singer Rita Ora on the hit talent show, with the latter currently working in Australia to film The Voice after flying in March.

Rita is expected to stay Down Under for a few months.

The Jonathan Ross Show airs on Saturday 10th April at 9.35pm on ITV and ITV Hub.
