Mike Posner plans to make ‘journey of a lifetime’ by climbing Mt. Everest to honor his late father

Mike Posner is gearing up for his latest courageous trek.

The 33-year-old singer revealed he plans to climb Mr. Everest later this year, less than two years after he completed a six-month walk across the entire United States.

‘SO EXCITED to announce that this May I’ll be attempting to summit the tallest mountain on Earth, Mt. Everest, with @drjonkedski in order to raise funds for @detroitjusticecenter,’ he captioned an Instagram post breaking the news on Tuesday.

He said he is making the journey to add a new ‘chapter’ to the book of his life and to ‘honor my dad’ during an interview with People on Friday. 

‘I’m comfortable with the risks, especially given the work I’ve put in. My goal is to go over there and have fun. This is like a journey of a lifetime,’ he added.

The I Took A Pill In Ibiza musician was inspired after his challenging cross-country ‘obliterated who I thought I was as a human and what I thought I was capable of.’

He has been training for the climb for a year and a half, since arriving on the west coast from his walk, with the help of Dr. John Kedrowski.

The pair have already made their way up mountains in Mexico, Ecuador and Pakistan.

He told the outlet: ‘The thing about risks is we are going to die anyways. We’re all gonna die. My dad is dead. Avicii is dead. Mac Miller’s dead. One day I’ll be dead. Hopefully not any time soon. But before that happens, I want to live. I want to live my life. So I’m comfortable with the risk after doing the research.’

Mike’s father Jon Miller died of cancer in 2017, and his friends Avicii and Mac Miller both passed on in 2018, the first by suicide and the second by an accidental overdose. 

Posner is also doing the climb to raise money for the Detroit Justice Center and the work they do in the criminal justice realm in memory of his late criminal defense attorney father.

He’s already raised over $175,00 for the organization on GoFundMe. 

‘I was just blown away by the work they’re doing. I’m from Detroit and I want to help make it a better place or empower the people that are making it a better place. But simultaneously, I can honor my dad,’ he explained about choosing the organization.

The ‘Cooler Than Me’ performer believes the upcoming expedition will take as long as two months, and plans on doing as little as possible once he’s finished.

‘I just need to stop and do absolutely nothing — without my phone, without any human interaction. And then I kind of figure out what I want to do next. That’s my after-party, dude. No champagne, no strippers,’ he said, revealing he may head to a monastery in Colorado to spend time self-reflecting.
