The Oscar-winning actress- turning 45 next week – stayed close to her youngest, who was brimming with energy as he climbed up a tree stump.
While her little boy wore a pair of electric green shorts, the Big Little Lies star kept a low-profile in an all black outfit, a baseball cap and sunglasses.

Earlier this week, she and her husband Jim Toth and their son hit a trail in Santa Monica with their dogs.
Witherspoon and Toth – who met at a 2010 party – will celebrate their 10th wedding anniversary on March 26.
