A report last year revealed this sequel will also be set in present-moment, and it confirmed that Anna and Ryan would not return to the helm.

The first Captain Marvel movie showed how Carol came from humble beginnings to become an Air Force pilot alongside her friend Maria Rambeau, performed by Lashanna Lynch.

She unwittingly becomes the powerful Captain Marvel when she gets caught in a war between two alien races, the Kree and the Skrulls.

The film also starred Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Jude Law as Yon-Rogg and Gemma Chann as Minn-Erva, though it is not known who will return for the sequel.
