Alyson Hannigan reveals her two children have NOT seen Buffy the Vampire Slayer

While it’s been 18 years since Buffy the Vampire Slayer went off the air, star Alyson Hannigan revealed her kids have still not seen the show.

The 46-year-old actress has been married to Alexis Denisof, who played Wesley Wyndam-Pryce in the series, since 2003, and they share two children, 11-year-old Satyana Marie and eight-year-old Keeva Jane.

Hannigan revealed that neither of her children have seen the show yet, though she’s thrilled Georgia politician Stacey Abrams is a fan of the show in a new interview with TooFab.

Hannigan played Willow Rosenberg during the show’s entire seven-season run between 1997 and 2003.

The show still has a rather rabid fan base, nearly 25 years after its debut, which include Abrams, the Georgia politician who was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for her efforts in boosting voter turnout in Georgia that lead to the Democrats flipping the United States Senate.

Abrams made headlines in November when she chimed in on a long-held fan debate over Buffy’s (Sarah Michelle Gellar) love triangle between Angel (David Boreanaz) and Spike (James Marsters).

‘To be fair, Angel was the right boyfriend for Buffy coming into her power. Spike was the right man to be with as she became the power,’ Abrams tweeted in early November, which went viral.

When asked about Abrams’ viral tweet, Hannigan responded that, ‘”Well, in my house Stacey Abrams is referred to as my new best friend.

‘She doesn’t know that, but that’s what I like to call her. We’ve direct messaged through Twitter but she probably doesn’t know she’s my new best friend, but she is,’ Hannigan added.

The actress added the timing is rather apropos, since her oldest daughter Satyana is doing a report on voting rights activist Fannie Lou Hamer.

‘So it was really cool to sort of show her the similarities in the movements that each activist is doing, like then and now. I’m so in awe of people that make such a profound difference and it’s just so cool, and she’s my new best friend,’ Hannigan said.

While Abrams is most certainly a fan, Hannigan revealed her kids haven’t watched it quite yet, unlike co-star Sarah Michelle Gellar’s kids, who started watching Buffy in quarantine.

‘My older daughter keeps asking how old she has to be before she can watch it and I’m not giving her an actual answer, but we’re also just sort of like really cautious about what they watch,’ she said of her kids.

The actress added she gets ‘nervous’ about her kids watching the show, adding they ‘definitely can’t watch Dark Willow,’ referring to her character’s sinister arc in the show’s sixth season.

She added her kids still aren’t ‘great’ with horror content, and that there are still some episodes she gets scared by.

‘I guess I’m just being pretty overprotective, but obviously I want them to watch it. I feel like they should be older still,’ she added.

The actress and mom added she plans on watching the show again, ‘before my kids watch it just to make sure. So I know which episodes to skip.’

She was reminded about her dominatrix outfits in episodes such as The Wish and Dopplegangland, adding, ‘Now imagine that I’m your mom. That’s going to maybe be a little weird!’
