How former McLeod’s Daughters star Bridie Carter’s career was saved when she was offered a role on Home and Away after doing voice over jobs in her wardrobe at home

She’s known for playing Tess Silverman McLeod on McLeod’s Daughters.

But Bridie Carter will soon be making a name for herself on another TV drama, after being offered a permanent position on Home and Away.

In an interview with New Idea, the 50-year-old revealed she would join the cast as real estate agent Susie McAllister.

New venture! Former McLeod’s Daughters star Bridie Carter (pictured), 50, has revealed she will be joining the cast of Home and Away as real estate agent Susie McAllister

‘[I was offered the role] in the height of COVID and I was on my farm in lockdown, homeschooling my children [Tobias, 10, and Otis, 15, Wilson], thinking my industry had gone,’ she said.

‘I was doing voice over jobs from my walk-in wardrobe, when all of a sudden I got this call from my agent, saying: “Home and Away has offered you this wonderful role of Susie McAllister!”.’

And Bridie has already had a head start on the role, having made an appearance as Susie on the soap opera twice before.

‘When someone offers you a role and they had you specially in mind for that character, there is something really special about that,’ she told the publication.

In a separate interview with Now To Love, Bridie said the cast and crew accommodated her needs as a ‘working mum’.

‘They were so supportive of me – and of being a working mum too. I was able to film an then return home to my kids [in Byron Bay],’ she said.

And it appears love will be on the cards for her character, with Susie catching the eye of newly single John Palmer, who’s being played by Shane Withington.

‘Susie is so intriguing, and confident about who she is. It was so much fun to play out with Shane, and I’ve had a ball playing out this story,’ Bridie told Now To Love.

‘It’s special when that happens, particularly on a long-running show.’

Home and Away returns for its 34th season at 7pm on Monday, February 1, on Channel 7 and 7Plus
