Inspirational burns survivor Turia Pitt still finds running as ‘a mood-balancer’ and is launching new running program to help mothers get back into fitness

Turia Pitt suffered horrific burns to 64 per cent of her body when she got caught in a wildfire in 2011 during an ultramarathon.

But that hasn’t stopped the 33-year-old from running. 

Turia, now a mother of two boys, claims it has became a form of ‘me time’ and wants to encourage other mothers to join her new running program.

RUN with Turia is a running program specifically designed for mothers, and has been reviewed by women’s health physiotherapists, and includes pelvic floor advice.

In an interview with Body+Soul’s Healthy-ish podcast this month, Turia said: ‘I use running as a mood-balancer, I guess, is how I’d describe it.’

The athlete-turned-motivational speaker joked that having children has made her ‘more efficient’ with her exercise time, adding: ‘when I get a 40-minute window, I’m getting out the door.’

On Instagram, she shared: ‘I know that if I get out the door for a run, I’ll come back with more capacity to give to my kids, partner, team and work.’

Turia added that her program is not designed for mothers with children under the age 12-months, and more geared to mothers of toddlers or teenagers. 

‘We start running on Feb 15. Pop your name on the waitlist and I’ll let you know when you can enrol!’ she said, adding there was a link in her bio with more info.

Turia welcomed her first son, Hakavai, with her long-term partner Michael Hoskin in December, 2017.

In February 2020. the happy coupe welcomed their second child – son Rahiti.

The pair got engaged in 2015, with Michael previously admitting he bought the diamond ring when Turia was in intensive care in 2011.
