Looking fab: Christie Brinkley leaped into the sea and swam around amid a light drizzle this weekend while holidaying in the Caribbean

At one point the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue icon lifted her feet up and splashed them in the surface of the water.

The move was a nod to an iconic moment in the 1952 movie musical when Gene Kelly is singing the theme song and starts splashing around in a puddle.

Christie, who was born just two years after the film came out, wrote in the caption to her new Instagram video: ‘hope this gives you a laugh!’

She has been holidaying with her daughter Sailor Brinkley-Cook, who has brought her own boyfriend Ben Sosne along.

Although the song Singin’ The The Rain is most famous for its use in the movie of the same name, it was written in the 1920s by Arthur Freed and Nacio Herb Brown.

Arthur eventually became head of the famous Freed Unit at MGM where he thought up the movie Singin’ In The Rain as a jukebox musical of his old songs.

The title song gained a new life in the 1970s – the decade when Christie became a star – because of Stanley Kubrick’s movie A Clockwork Orange.

In a notorious scene from that film Malcolm McDowell’s leading man sings the song while he and his gang beat a man and rape his wife.

Malcolm has told Entertainment Weekly that he met Gene Kelly at a party the year after A Clockwork Orange’s release – and the older man ‘completely cut me dead.’

He added: ‘His widow, though, gave a talk about this to the Academy, I think, maybe three years ago, when it was the 40th anniversary. She was very sweet and she came up to me afterwards, and said: “Malcolm, just to let you know, Gene was not pissed off with you. He was pissed off with Stanley…because he never paid him.”‘
