After Steve first agreed to sleep in the same bed, Mishel gushed: ‘Today has been a very emotional day, but now I actually know we have more than a friendship.

‘I can’t believe he’s prepared to take the next step forward to a romantic level. This is what I’ve been waiting for. I’m not nervous at all, it’s exciting. Let’s see if it happens.’

As the show then cut to the morning after, Mishel was frustrated that Steve had fallen asleep within minutes – with ‘no increase in intimacy’ between them.

When asked about sharing a bed, Steve told Mishel: ‘It was fine, darling. No major issues. It was a bit strange, we’ll just take each day as it comes.’

Sensing her disappointment that nothing physical happened, the barbershop owner went on to explain that he is still wanting to take things slowly between them.

‘I felt the fact that I had my arm around her and she fell asleep on my chest was quite a good step forward, but I think she expected more,’ he added.

Mishel later vented her frustrations to the other brides at the girls’ night.

She said: ‘Sharing the bed means something totally different to me than it does to Steve. He’s just happy I fell asleep on his chest.

‘I just wished that he had given me a kiss. I’m really hoping that the boys dig in at him tonight about why he didn’t go that extra step.’

Married At First Sight continues Monday at 7.30pm on Channel Nine
